Early Life
Family background and upbringing
He came from a humble tribal family and only because of his sheer hard work and dedication in his profession, he is now one of the renowned doctors in the country. Mukut Minz is born to Mika Minz and Premika Minz in Goibhanga village in Kalunga area. Dr. Mukut’s father, Mr. Mika was working as a Peskar in Uditnagar SDJM court at Rourkela. Mukut is his second son. There are four brothers and a sister of Mukut.
He did his schooling in Kalunga and thereafter in Rourkela and studied in Sundargarh College. He did his MBBS from VSS Medical College in Burla. Thereafter, he did his master of surgery course in PGI, Chandigarh.
Major Breakthroughs
In the journey of Medicine
- Performed the first cadaver kidney transplant at PGI in July 1996
- Performed the first laparoscopic donor nephrectomy in 2004
- He is also the first doctor to perform Pancreas transplant in the country.
- Established combined kidney-pancreas transplant in Type 1 diabetics with kidney failure
- Conducted first National CME on Pancreas transplant at Chandigarh in 2016

- MBBS - Sambalpur University, Odisha 1976
- He joined PGI in 1980 and has over 30 years of experience in this field.
- After completion of master of surgery in PGI Chandigarh, he joined there as Assistant Professor.
- He was elevated to the post of Senior Professor in 2008.
- He pioneered a new department - Department of Renal Transplant Surgery at PGI Chandigarh and decorated its position of HOD in 1989.
- He received advanced training in cadaver organ retrieval and transplantation at various centres/universities of Norway, Sweden, Germany and USA.
- In March 2012, Dr Mukut Minz, mentored and volunteered to set up a Kidney Transplant Unit at SCB Medical College, Cuttack.
- At PGI, he took more responsibilities and became member of Governing Body of PGI in 2015.
- After his superannuation in July 2016, Dr Minz joined in Fortis Hospital, Mohali, Chandigarh as Director, Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Surgery.
- Dr. Mukut Minz came into limelight when he was chosen to conduct kidney transplant surgery of Union External Affairs Minister Smt. Sushma Swaraj.
