Presently Dr. Mukut is serving in the capacity of Director of Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Surgery, at FORTIS HOSPITAL Mohali.


Dr. Mukut Minz completed his long innings and retired from post as Head, at PGIMER Chandigarh on 30th July 2016.

  • Dr. Minz joined PGIMER Chandiarh as junior resident in 1980.
  • And he became Head of the Renal Transplat Surgery Center in 1989.
  • Dr. Mukut Minz started a special Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and an operation Theatre (OT) dedicated to transplant patients in late 90s

  • In the year 2005, the center was converted to an independent separate department - Department of Renal Transplant and Surgery.
  • He shares ,"It took a long time to establish a dedicated department for Renal Tranplant and Surgery. I started it all alone, but now there is a dedicated and efficient team, ready to take it to much greater heights."

From Laying the foundation to taking it to new heights

Started Renal Transplant as a service

  • Dr. Mukut joined the department in 1986. It was not a separate department then, but a service.
  • Initially, he used to perform one or two transplant in a month, but by 90s the number started increasing when the surgery showed up improved and better results with quicker recovery.
  • By December 2014, Dr. Minz also started conducting pancreas transplant. By now he has done 6 kidney and transplants with kidney failure.

    • Under his mentorship the department has also performed several complicated dialysis access procedures (AV Fistulas for hemodialysis).
    • He has trained over 30 transplant surgeons, many of whom are holding academic positions in India, US, UK and Australia.
    • In March 2012, Dr Mukut Minz, mentored and volunteered to set up a Kidney Transplant Unit at SCB Medical College, Cuttack.
