He has performed over 3500 successful Kidney Transplant breaking all boundaries and has numerous popular publication in different field of medicine. With his vast experience and the best known kidney transplant surgeon in India, He headed the Kidney Transplat Surgery of Indian Foreign Minister Smt Shushma Swaraj.
Prof. (Dr.) Mukut Minz had been Prof & Head, Department of Renal Transplant Surgery, PGI, Chandigarh, and has been a stalwart in Transplant Surgery in the country. He joined PGI in 1980 and has over 30 years of experience in this field. He was elevated to the post of Senior Professor in 2008 and member of Governing Body of PGI in 2015. He received advanced training in cadaver organ retrieval and transplantation at various centres/universities of Norway, Sweden, Germany and USA. He set up a new department of Renal Transplant Surgery in PGI and performed over 3,300 kidney transplants. Dr Minz successfully established Combined Kidney-Pancreas Transplant Programme for type 1 diabetics with kidney failure in PGI, which is currently a leading pancreas transplant centre in North India. Under his mentorship the department has also performed several complicated dialysis access procedures (AV Fistulas for hemodialysis). He has trained over 30 transplant surgeons, many of whom are holding academic positions in India, US, UK and Australia. He has been a Visiting Professor in various universities in India and has been conferred several awards and honours
In early 1980s, Dr. Mukut Minz realised the importance of organ transplant in saving lives of patients. He performed over 3,500 kidney transplants and six kidney plus pancreas transplants in his service spanning over 36 years.
It is said that doctors are angels sent on Earth by God. Hon'ble External Affairs Minister Smt. Sushma Swaraj is full of praise and thankfulness for Dr. Mukut Minz who performed the successful kidney transplant surgery on her at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
On January 26 2017, Dr. Mukut Minz is awarded India’s 4th highest civilian award the prestigious ‘Padma Shri Award’by the Hon'ble President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee, for his distinguished contribution to the field of Medicine.
In recognition of his exemplary work in the field of transplantation, Sundargarh born Dr. Mukut Minz is honoured with the prestigious awards - Odisha Gaurav Samman in the year 2012.
Dr. Mukut Minz has over 50 peer-reviewed publications on renal transplant. Dr. Minz is an avid writer himself and enjoys encouraging resident and fellow contributions to the medical literature.
Dr. Mukut Minz started a special intensive care unit (ICU) and operation theatre (OT), all alone, dedicated to transplant patients in late 90s. In 2005, the centre was converted into a department of renal transplant surgery.
He has trained over 30 transplant surgeons, many of whom are holding academic positions in India, the US, the UK and Australia and has been a visiting professor in various universities.
Dr. Mukut Minz completed his long innings and retired from post as Head, at PGIMER Chandigarh on 30th July 2016. Presently Dr. Mukut is serving in the capacity of Director of Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Surgery, at FORTIS HOSPITAL Mohali.
This is my Dr. Mukut Minz who operated me for kidney and pancreas both, in one operation and saved my life successfully. Now It has been about 5 months post-operation. And all fine. I give full credit of this to Dr. Minz and his team, at PGIMER Chandigarh.
I feel proud sharing that I was nurtured for years in their (Dr. Mukut Minz and his beloved wife Dr. Ranjana Minz) wisdom, knowledge and humbleness.
